South Asian youth delegation calls upon newly appointed UN’s Envoy on Youth

New York – (28-07-2017) Six members youth delegation from South Asian Countries led by Mr. Fsahat Ul Hassan of Pakistan calls upon UN Youth Envoy at United Nations headquarters. Ms. Jayathma Wickramanayake the former Youth Delegate of Sri Lanka has appointed as second UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth recently. Purpose of the meeting was to discuss the possibilities to strengthen the youth movement in South Asia and in Asia at large. It was emphasized that there should be effective coordination among different available structures and networks in the region. UN Youth Delegate program and National Youth Councils were also discussed; Sri Lanka is only one country having UN Youth Delegate Program whereas Sri Lanka and Nepal are the only two countries in south Asia who have National Youth Councils. “It the high time to acknowledge young people in countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh who has high proportion of youth population” said Mr. Fsahat. Ms. Jayathma emphasized on the collective efforts for youth development by other international and regional forums including SAARC, Commonwealth etc. On behalf of ICYF-DC, Mr. Fsahat invited Youth Envoy for the international conference on “State of Muslim Youth”. Other members of the delegation were Mr. Ali Iqbal from Pakistan, Ms. Huma Arshad from Pakistan, Ms. Amina from US, Ms. Jolly from Nepal and Ms. Ashwariya from India.
